I’m so glad you stopped by to see what the fuss is all about. Let me start by introducing myself, my name is Cassie Downs, and I am the founder and president of the Carter County Dream Center. I am formerly of Ellsinore, Missouri, but now reside in a small town north of Springfield, Missouri called Stockton. I am a wife to Dustin, momma to Wyatt, Annah, and Tyler, writer, speaker, and a youth pastor. In other words, I am busy! My husband Dustin and I are graduates of East Carter High School, class of 2001 and 2002 (Go Redbirds!). We both grew up and were residents of Ellsinore until our move in July of 2014.
So, what is a dream center? This is the question I get asked more than any other question. So before I go any further let me explain what a dream center is and does. The dream center is a lifeline for the hopeless. The Carter County Dream Center will be a space for people who are battling desperate situations: Poverty, addiction, pregnancy crisis, hurt, and hopelessness from life’s curve balls or maybe even poor choices. Our prayer is that the dream center and its volunteers will be a bridge between hopelessness and hope in Christ. Our desire is that the dream center will compel people to dare to dream again.
So there you have the, what. But why? Well, 2017 was a tough year for me in my new town, and no matter how good things were, no matter how much I loved my new city and the incredible people here, my heart was trapped somewhere back in Carter County. I didn’t quite understand why I was feeling the way I was. I knew God had sent us to Stockton and we are right where we are supposed to be, but yet my heart was hurting. Slowly but surely I began to hear whispers from heaven. In the meantime, we started a campaign at our church called, We Love Our City. The campaign was our way of loving on our community and sharing Jesus with others. I enjoyed the campaign very much, but my heart hurt as I longed to love on my community in Carter County. Over the weeks and months of planning, God slowly began to compel me to dream big for my Carter County community. He started to reveal to me how WE can make a difference in the lives of so many hurting and afflicted people in and around Carter County.
It’s now been since October of 2017 that God whispered dream center into my heart and we have since filed and received our 501c3 nonprofit status with the government and are ready to begin accepting tax-deductible donations toward the dream. My prayer is that you will partner with my team and me to bring this dream to life. Lives will be changed, and you can have a part in that. No prayer big or small will go unnoticed. And of course, no amount of money is too small or too large 🙂 It will take all of us doing our part to make such a big dream come to life.
I pray blessings over you and your house, and may you also, dare to dream.
